Lurking Love Stories

I'm back. Here's my second installment of:

Romance Lurking in the Science Fiction section.

I've been thinking about this a great deal (yes, I have too much time on my hands. I should be writing) and I'm going to tackle some of these by author rather than title. I mean, some of the original great ladies of sci fi are seriously prolific in the romance department.

With that in mind, I'll start with my all time favorite--Andre Norton.

Known as the "Grand Damme of Science Fiction," Norton has more titles than I can keep up with, and I can keep up with quite a few. Her witch world series is the one I'm most familiar with, and there are even too many of them to stay on top of. Norton mixes modern and ancient worlds, tech and magic, old gods and psionics all in a flawless and exciting blend. Does she write romance?

You betcha.

My favorites that are particularly geared toward the romantic end of the spectrum:
(In some cases these would be called romantic sci-fi and in others they would definitely be science fiction romance...at least in today's market)

Year of the Unicorn (total romance and one of my top reads of all time)
The Crystal Gryphon (ditto)
The first book in the series, just titled, Witch World (which isn't exactly romance, but has a strong romantic sub plot)

Norton leaned so far toward the romance spectrum that she wrote a couple of mainstream or other genre romances. The White Jade Fox was published and sold as romantic suspense...even back then.

Anyway, most of her stuff has a strong romantic thread or is outright romance.
If you haven't read her, by all means grab one of the above and dive on in.
